Gasquet Upends Berdych

Former Rogers Cup finalist Richard Gasquet dismissed No. 4 seed Tomas Berdych 6-4, 6-2 to reach the quarter-finals in Toronto on Friday.

The 14th-seeded Gasquet converted four of his 11 break point chances to improve his record against Berdych to a 4-2 mark. The Frenchman won the third-round meeting in 84 minutes.

Gasquet, who finished runner-up at the ATP World Tour Masters 1000 event to Roger Federer in 2006, is bidding to lift his first trophy of the season. Needing to pull double duty after rain washed out singles action on Thursday, Gasquet will face seventh seed Juan Monaco or 11th seed Mardy Fish next.
